The Territory

The hills of Valdobbiadene are an enchanting landscape located in the Veneto region, in the north-east of Italy. This hilly area is famous throughout the world for being the heart of the Prosecco Superiore wine region, known for its high-quality sparkling wine.

The hills of Valdobbiadene extend over an area that includes the municipalities of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, between the provinces of Treviso and Belluno. This region is characterized by a gentle and undulating hilly terrain, covered with vineyards as far as the eye can see. The vines, arranged in terraces that follow the sinuosity of the land, create a picturesque and suggestive panorama.

The hills of Valdobbiadene are famous for their particular microclimate, which is ideal for growing Glera grapes, used in the production of Prosecco. The entire area was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2019, thanks to its thousand-year-old tradition in the cultivation of vines and the beauty of the cultural landscape.

The hills of Valdobbiadene. The cradle of Prosecco.

In addition to the vineyards, the hills of Valdobbiadene offer a fascinating combination of nature and culture. You can discover picturesque villages, ancient churches and historic homes that testify to the historical and artistic richness of this area. In addition, numerous paths and hiking trails allow you to explore the hills on foot or by bike, offering wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The hills of Valdobbiadene are an ideal place for wine lovers and those seeking a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of big cities.

Here you can immerse yourself in the local wine culture, taste the renowned Prosecco Superiore and enjoy the tranquility of a unique natural environment.

The Producer

Our passion for wine is the driving force behind Col dei Franchi. It was born from the determination of two friends in love with wine and Italian style. We combined special ingredients to create a one-of-a-kind Prosecco, that is good inside and beautiful outside.

Our attention to product quality is combined with a design that is meticulously crafted down to the smallest details, from the bottle to the label. CAJ and OROCHIARO are the expressions of our commitment, two brands that reflect different selections of grapes from the best parcels of Valdobbiadene.

Col dei Franchi's approach to the pursuit of quality is completely different from tradition. The search and selection of the best grapes from the best vineyards of Valdobbiadene, the collaboration with true Artisans of the vineyard, with lovers of the spectacular Prosecco hills and the intuitions of our winemaker are what allow us not to limit the quality of our wines to the quality of the vineyards we own, but rather to always obtain the best for our wines and for our loyal customers. For this reason we like to call ourselves "Grape Hunters".

Valdobbiadene with its vineyards is a unique territory in the world. Located 50 km from Venice and surrounded by the majestic Dolomites 100 km away, this hilly territory offers an enchanting scenery. The hills extend endlessly, enriched by a variety of shades of green, making this region one of the most evocative in Northern Italy. The conformation of the territory ensures a temperate climate throughout the year. The predominant southern exposure, the slope of the hills and the constant presence of breezes mitigate the impact of summer showers on our vineyards.

Viticulture in this region has ancient origins, but the first written mention linking Prosecco to Valdobbiadene dates back to 1772. Since the introduction of the Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) in 1969, the historic production area has remained limited to 15 municipalities. Two of them give their name to the area: Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, respectively the cultural capital and the productive heart.

Our grapes from the best vineyards in Valdobbiadene, together with the collaboration with vineyard artisans who know every corner of the vineyards and put into practice traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation make it possible to create exceptional wines. This synergy between nature and human skills is what makes our wines unique.
